On Jan 8th 2009, the Hotel Industry Association held the China Hotel Industry Technology Summit in Hanhua at the International Hotel Beijing. This is the first time the summit was held, but plans are underway to make this an annual event. The participants included most of the Beijing hotels and international management groups, such as IHG, SLIM and the Marriott.

The Chinese government also took part in the activity with many important leaders attending the summit, including the Chinese Ministry of Industry Information, the Ministry of Science and Technology, as well as the Tourism Bureau.
